Texas Holdem poker has become extremely popular over the last couple of decades. Over 7300 players are participating in the 2010 World Series of Poker Texas Holdem Championship, and it is estimated that over 200,000 people now play Holdem poker online everyday.

Poker and Texas Hold'em

Poker is a game of odds and strategy, and Texas Holdem is arguably among the most complex variants of poker and certainly the most popular (especially since the advent of online poker in 2002). Every player is dealt two cards down, then there is an initial round of betting. Then three cards are turned over in the middle for all players to share. This is called the flop, and is followed by a second betting round. Then one more card is dealt up, and this is called the turn. The turn is followed by a third betting round, and then the seventh and final card is dealt up (called the river). After the river there is a final betting round and then the remaining players show their cards. The winner (usual poker hand rankings) takes the pot.
